DARWIN E. JOHNSON

Mr. Johnson has been engaged in the private, government and corporate practice of law for more than 40 years, with a special emphasis in litigation, trials and mediation. 

Experience
Mr. Johnson’s experience includes the areas of personal injury, wrongful death, products liability, professional negligence, health care and business disputes.

Mr. Johnson’s experience in the areas of personal injury and wrongful death includes automobiles, fire, premises liability and workers’ compensation.  His products liability experience is in the areas of automobiles, tractors, recreation vehicles, forklifts, cranes, hoists and power tools.

Mr. Johnson’s experience in the professional negligence field includes cases involving medical doctors, psychologists, dentists, hospitals, clinics and laboratories. Mr. Johnson has served a total of eight years on the boards of directors of a 400 bed hospital, durable medical equipment company (Chairman of the Board) and medical holding company.

In the area of business disputes, Mr. Johnson has litigated cases involving insurance coverage,  partnership dissolution, property loss, business interruption, business valuation, contract disputes, construction disputes and civil fraud.

Mr. Johnson has represented insureds for Aetna, American International Companies (AIG), Auto Owners Insurance Company, CNA, Commercial Union, Federated Insurance Company, Missouri Medical Insurance Company, Preferred Risk Mutual and Travelers Insurance.  His insurance practice experience includes four years with AIG as Managing Attorney of its Staff Counsel Office for Kansas and Missouri.

Mr. Johnson is licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court, United States District Court of Kansas, United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri, state of Kansas and state of Missouri.

Mr. Johnson is a Martindale-Hubbell AV rated attorney. He is a member of The Missouri Bar, ADR Section; Military Law Section (Twice Past Chairman); The Kansas Bar Association, ADR Section; Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, ADR Section (Past Chairman) and Medical/Legal Section.

Mr. Johnson is a member of the Heartland Mediators Association and Association of Missouri Mediators. He is certified by the Missouri Supreme Court and United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri as a civil mediator.

He holds real estate licenses in Kansas and Missouri.

Military Service
Colonel, (Retired) United States Army Reserve, Judge Advocate General’s Corp. Thirty years active and reserve duty. Graduate of United States Army War College and International Law Officer's Course from the Judge Advocate General’s School, University of Virginia. Vietnam and Gulf War (Desert Storm) veteran. Decorations: National Defense Medal with Oak leaf cluster, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Reserve Achievement Medal with three Oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal,  Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak leaf clusters and Legion of Merit.

Education
Mr. Johnson received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Kansas. He also received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Kansas State University, a Master of Laws in Trial Practice degree from The University of Missouri at Kansas City, Comparative Law Studies from St. Edmond's Hall in Oxford, England, National Institute of Trail Advocacy at the University of Florida and Medical and Hospital Law from Toro College, Washington, D.C.
